Popular Crystals To Showcase In Your Crystal Store

crystal wholesale supplier

As a gift shop or crystal & metaphysical store owner, you may be wondering: which crystals will be most successful in my store? There is such a wide variety of crystals it may be difficult to know where to start. Also if you are new to the crystal business you may be unfamiliar with the terminology used to describe the various types of gemstones available. From colors to specific sizes and cuts, how can you know that you’re making the best purchase?

When selecting your crystal inventory you may choose gemstones based on personal preference. However, you should also look at your market demographics and any current trends in the industry. The gemstone specialists at The Gemstone Factory have some suggestions for products that are popular in the gemstone and crystal market.

Tumbled Stones

Always a popular item these stones are polished and smaller in size, making them affordable to all. These stones are produced by placing rough unpolished pieces in a machine called – appropriately – a “rock tumbler.” This process, which can last several days and requires many phases, helps smooth out rough edges and adds a polish resulting in a rounder, shiny, smooth appearance. These stones are available in a wide range of colors and price points and have a variety of uses. Customers love tumbled stones to make their jewelry, decorate around the home, or carry with them.

Natural Stones

As opposed to tumbled these stones are largely unchanged from their natural state. They are usually described as natural or rough and come in different sizes. Some natural stones can form in cube or pointed shapes. Customers love these for making jewelry and other crafts and using them in zen gardens.

Clusters

“Clusters” are a group of crystals that form together through the natural growth process. They are rooted in one “base.” Quartz and Amethyst clusters, for example, are made up of multiple points attached. The resulting formations are unique and beautiful. Clusters occur in all size ranges. They can weigh from under a pound to thousands of pounds. The larger clusters are statement pieces often used in offices, showrooms, and homes.

Specific Types Of Crystals For Your Store

Tumbled, natural stones and clusters are each available in many types of gemstones. To appeal to all types of customers it is advantageous to have some crystals from each category. Now that you are aware of some of the different types of gemstone specimens, you may be wondering: which specific types of crystals should I include from those categories? Here are some popular suggestions:

Amethyst

Commonly known as the birthstone for February, this striking purple stone gets its color naturally from iron and other minerals that are present during the formation of quartz crystals. The purple color can range from a deep grape purple to a light lavender purple or even a reddish purple depending on the levels of iron present. It was once considered one of the most valuable gemstones in existence, on par with sapphires, rubies, and emeralds.

Amethysts are primarily found in Brazil, Uruguay, South Africa, and Mexico.

Azurite

Azurite is a copper-based mineral that is blue. It is often found with malachite and chrysocolla, two other copper-based minerals. All three minerals are popular with Azurite being the more difficult mineral to find in the market. Azurite tends to be sold in its natural form which can be small druzy type crystals growing on a matrix or in a nodule or fibrous form.

Azurite is most often found in Arizona, Namibia, Morocco, Australia, and France. Specimen pieces are hugely popular among gemstone collectors.

Celestite

Also called celestine, is a crystal best known for its clear to pale blue color variations. It comes from Northwestern Madagascar, and is popular for both its beautiful crystal clusters and affordability.

Citrine

Citrine has the distinction of being one of the most popularly sought-after crystals on Google. Citrine is formed by the heating of amethyst in the earth’s crust. Natural Citrine is very rare and expensive. Most of the Citrine available in the market today is amethyst which has been heated and treated at very high temperatures to produce the yellow colored Citrine. Heat-treated Citrine is considered “real” Citrine by the crystal community.

Fluorite

This vibrant mineral comes in several different colors and is quite stunning. It also fluoresces under UV light. The most common colors of fluorite include green and purple, though it also naturally occurs in blue, clear, and yellow. When several colors combine in one piece it is called Rainbow Fluorite. The versatility of this stone makes it quite popular among collectors.

Garnet

Many people are familiar with garnets as January’s birthstone. But did you know that it comes in over a dozen species? They all have very similar physical properties but differ in chemical composition (which is hard to tell with the naked eye). This beautiful, deep red stone has been loved since antiquity and is a popular jewelry piece due to its hard surface.
