Crystals are popular tools in self-care and meditation rituals lending their healing and positive properties to help open the chakras, increase the feeling of love, and reduce negative energy and stress. In this article, we will discuss the history, properties, and uses of rose quartz.

History Of Rose Quartz

Rose quartz (also known as bohemian ruby or hyaline quartz) is a macro-crystalline mineral, commonly forming in large massive chunks without crystal faces or terminations. Rose quartz has been utilized throughout history. One of the earliest discoveries came from rose quartz beads that date back to 7,000 BC found in Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq). The Assyrians began making rose quartz jewelry around 800-600 BC. The Romans used rose quartz as a seal to show ownership. Egyptians believed that rose quartz had anti-aging properties and Egyptian and Roman women made face masks from rose quartz and used them to improve their complexions and prevent wrinkles.

Properties Of Rose Quartz

Rose quartz stands out from other types of quartz because of its pink color, which comes from the impurities of pink fibrous borosilicate. There are deeper pink varieties of rose quartz that are called strawberry rose quartz. There is also pale purple rose quartz called lavender rose quartz and a deep purple most often referred to as mulberry rose quartz.

While most rose quartz occurs in large mass form there have been some notable rose quartz specimens found with rare well-defined small crystal formations. The two largest rose quartz specimens ever found are the La Madona Rosa and the Van Allen belt specimen. La Madona Rosa is 15.5 inches tall, while the Van Allen belt specimen is nine inches tall. La Madona Rosa was found by miners in Brazil in the late 1950s. It got its name because it resembles traditional depictions of the Virgin Mary. La Madona Rosa was sold at auction by Heritage Auctions in 2013 for a staggering amount ranging from $550,000 to $662,500, well above the expected sale price of $200,000. The Van Allen belt specimen is kept at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.

How Rose Quartz Affects The Chakra

Chakras are the seven major energy points in your body that are believed to affect your emotional and physical well-being.

Rose quartz is associated with the heart chakra. It helps open up the heart to all kinds of love, including love of family, love of friends, romantic love, and love of self. The gentle and calming energy of rose quartz can work on all of the chakras in a more general way by replacing fear and negativity with self-love allowing the body to activate and open all of the chakras and reach a state of total well-being.

Rose quartz also affects the heart because it restores trust by helping you understand feelings such as fear and suspicion that would otherwise make it hard for you to move on from the past. This is one of the most important uses of this crystal.

What Rose Quartz Is Used For

Rose quartz is a therapeutic stone that has a nurturing and motherly presence. It is useful in times of crisis to bring calmness. It helps one move on from past situations by encouraging emotional healing, allowing one to grow and change. Rose quartz increases appreciation of the arts and allows for imagination and creativity. If you are experiencing a mid-life crisis, using rose quartz can ease your ego and insecurities and remind you that you have a youthful spirit.

How To Use Rose Quartz

Rose quartz can be used in many different ways, such as holding it while you meditate or wearing rose quartz jewelry. You can use rose quartz while reciting meditative mantras on becoming a loving being. A piece of rose quartz placed in your viewing area, offers benefits, such as encouraging romantic love and fostering harmony and trust in your relationships. To improve your sleep and wake up feeling inspired, you can keep rose quartz under your pillow as you sleep.

You can make a rose quartz mist to spray on your body, on surfaces like your bedspread or couch, or in the air. Place some small pieces of rose quartz in a glass spray bottle (preferably an amber-colored bottle) and fill the bottle three-quarters full with purified spring water or distilled water. Let the rose quartz sit in the water for at least an hour before you use the spray.

If you have several rose quartz crystals, you can make a rose quartz crystal grid to use while meditating or praying or to use for charging objects. Popular shapes for a crystal grid include circles, diamonds, and stars, but you can use any pattern you like. You can activate the grid by getting in touch with your heart and activating your intention. To close the space when you are finished simply remove the crystals from the grid pattern.
